Dakota Dust-Tex began as a part of Dust-Tex Rental out of Rapid City, SD in 1989. Operators Jack and Cheryl Jones came to Bismarck with two other employees and a handful of customers. They purchased the business in 1992 and created Dakota Dust-Tex, helping it grow to service about 2,500 customers and a service area that spans much of the Dakotas.
We are a 4th generation Dust-Tex, stemming from the original, which began in Denver, CO in 1947, by Bill Smith. Starting on a simple treated dust cloth and then a premium dust mop, other Dust-Tex franchises sprung up. One franchise began in 1964 in Rapid City, SD by Malcolm Herndon, who was a salesman for Bill Smith originally. Both Jack and Cheryl worked for Malcolm Herndon at the Rapid City facility for a number of years, working later for Paul Uren, whom they purchased the Bismarck facility from in 1992.
